After attaining his undergraduate degrees, he attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco. There, he received honors in multiple things including anatomy, community service and orthodontic research. He graduated in the top of his class and during dental school he found a passion for orthodontics. He enjoyed that he was able to work with both adults and children and to see a change in their confidence and appearance after orthodontic treatment. Although extremely competitive, he applied for orthodontic residency and was selected to attend the University of the Pacific. The program is led by nationally known orthodontists, professors, and researchers. At the University of the Pacific, Dr. O’Neill was given truly state of the art training. His research was directed towards treating kids that still have their baby teeth and the effectiveness of treatment. During residency Dr. O’Neill teamed up with many surgical teams to address issues like cleft lip and palate. He worked with Rotary Club to contribute to a craniofacial surgery mission to southern India. There, he was a part of a team effort to surgically correct facial deformities including cleft lip and palate in babies, children, and adults.
